Nerano
Nerano is a picturesque village located on the Amalfi Coast in southern Italy. It's known for its stunning coastal beauty, charming streets, and an array of world-class restaurants that offer delicious Mediterranean cuisine. Viewing Nerano and its renowned restaurants from a private boat tour provides a unique perspective and an opportunity to savor the coastal ambiance.
Technically, you can get there by car. At a certain point on the road from Naples to Positano, where it winds up, up and over the peak of Massa Lubrense, there’s a signpost for Nerano, a tiny village between scrub-covered cliffs far below. But after all the up it’s a lot of down – of winding, switching back and wondering if you’ll ever actually arrive. Which is why everyone comes to Nerano by boat. On any given day between May and October there are dozens in the harbour: wooden gozzi, RIBs for rent, sleek tenders belonging to the superyachts anchored all along the coast and off Capri. (But never a ferry; those don’t stop in Nerano which, as everyone will tell you, has been its saving grace.)
They come by boat, and they come to eat – usually at one of three historic restaurants: Lo Scoglio da Tommaso, Maria Grazia or La Conca del Sogno, which have become a conflation of some of the most hallowed eating and drinking in southern Italy. Lo Scoglio, owned by the De Simone family since 1958, is where celebrities hand-pick their crustaceans and captains of industry go home with tomatoes from Peppino De Simone’s own garden. La Conca del Sogno, just east of town, is popular with well-heeled Americans and Australians who rock up in panama-clad passels for its famous salt-crusted branzino. Maria Grazia is the humblest of the three, which belies its primacy in the Amalfi Coast pantheon: its eponymous founder began cooking in 1901, passing her recipes down through the family – including the original one for spaghetti alla Nerano, the moreish zucchini pasta that countless food writers, social media influencers and, latterly, Stanley Tucci have conspired to make renowned.
